the versatile syndicate, east cameron collective & the rest of the hole in the wall family got together to support the jon pettis memorial fund.
i arrived pretty late & missed a big chunk of the bands that performed, but still caught the lovelies of follow that bird, the bearded the bread, the incredibly tall midgetmen & the kickassery champs bridge farmers.

b.e. strange of strange tribe invited me to an event he put together @ lanai to show off some of the fotos i've taken over the past year. this was a few weeks back, but wanted to let y'all see the stuff i showed.
i kinda waited 'til the last possible moment to work on the pictures, but thanks to some good advice from my holmes robnice, the prints/frames came out pretty cool.

fun fun fun fest 2009 @ waterloo park, november 7 + 8 2009
this is really OUR festival!
got to hang out w/tons of friends, met tons of new friends, saw tons of great bands, said goodbye [for now?] to an amazing band of friends, got totally muddy, totally drunk, totally wet & most of all... totally fun/fun/fun!
thanks to austinist for getting me hooked up w/a media wristband, some tasty coffee & breakfast tacos. thanks to the peligrosa all stars for hooking up the backstage access to their set for some great pictures!
i had the pleasure of meeting & shootin' the shit w/chris cubas of the altercation punk comedy group, also shook hands w/king khan right after he played guitar, backing up gza the genius. the blue stage manager told me NOT to take pics of a certain well endowed young sister's heiny ;). i totally mcgyver'd a plastic bag cover for my camera during sunday's downpour. gza the genius gave me some of his miller lite [?] & totes drunkenly hit on my homegirl Y. got called out by todd barry for using my flash during his set, even though i asked him before-hand whether i could.
more tidbits will be added as i remember them [did i mention i got pretty drunk that weekend?]

MSTRKRFT + orión + king louie @ republic douche, october 30th 2009
one of my favorite dj acts came to town, but probs the worst nightclub.
i don't know how much the republic douche owner/promoter paid toronto, canada's MSTRKRFT, but it must've been a pretty shiny motherfuckin' nickel!
the crowd was thick w/douchebaggery, shitty über gel'd hair, tight ed hardy t-shirts & the female version of that.
the red river/7th street scene was rep'd proper by my boys orión & king louie. they definitely got the crowd bumpin' before our northern visitors dropped in & bounced off w/their bottle of crown.
the peen scene was all up on it w/some great shots to the dome! ;) fuckin' kids need to know better than to mess w/mike & jenn scene!
i nearly got my ass kicked by a gang of 6 mexican fresas/wannabe tuffs. conveniently brave when bow'n up to a skinny geek w/out his homies. had to twice talk 'em out of beating on me 'cause i wasn't the one who whooped on their holmes. jeesh!
i'm really glad to hear that some of my peeps got their $ back.

superfreakin' awesome! steven levitt on his new book superfreakonomics: global cooling, patriotic prostitutes, and why suicide bombers should buy life
steven levitt exploded onto the scene in 2005 w/the original freakonomics tome. levitt & co-author stephen j. dubner had some incredibly interesting theories on crime & it's relation to roe v. wade, cheating, crack dealing, etc.. i read that book in like 2 hours flat! it was so refreshing to see economic theory applied to everyday issues. i cannot wait to pick up the superfreakonomics: global cooling, patriotic prostitutes, and why suicide bombers should buy life.

the unrealistic dream of "bipartisan" health insurance reform
i really don't get it!
the white house wants the almighty olympia snowe to vote for their watered down version of the public plan in order to achieve the holy grail of a "bipartisan" bill. they hope that she will attract d.i.n.o's [democrats in name only] to vote along w/her. does the white house not realize that their critics will still call foul, they will still call this "socialist" legislature, they will say the white house "rammed" the bill through, etc., etc.? it doesn't matter how "bipartisan" the bill is president obama, your critics will still call you hitler, anti-christ, mao tse-tung, et al.
why not just get the best bill passed, get a robust public option that covers a majority of united states citizens? remember your campaign promise of health care for all?!
have you seen the polls that show that less americans now consider themselves republicans than EVER?! if the white house gets a real health insurance overhaul bill passed through, if it truly helps citizen's access to health care, the democratic party [which you are a part of] will be compensated w/votes. if you pass REAL health insurance reform, the democratic party will reign for a loooooong time.
i understand the health insurance insurance industry is in the pockets of some of the administration [maybe not now, but surely in the past], but this is a cross roads, the obama white house will go down in history for not only having the 1st black president, but for passing legislature that changed this country in a deeply & positively profound way.

i am nearly $20,000 in the hole w/the health care industry because i happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. a [most likely] drunk driver ran a red light & i was struck while riding my bicycle at about 25 mph. my story is nothing compared to the woman who was shot by a suicidal killer & now is in debt for all the care she received, or the baby who was too "obese" to receive health insurance, or my friend's roommate who was struck by a car while [also] riding his bicycle & spent weeks in intensive care, or the riverboat gamblers' guitarist who was also in a bicycle vs. auto wreck & is still in intensive care along w/a quickly growing pile of bills next to him [help here]. these stories are just a handful of the millions out there.
help us, help your country!

i am nearly $20,000 in the hole w/the health care industry because i happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. a [most likely] drunk driver ran a red light & i was struck while riding my bicycle at about 25 mph. my story is nothing compared to the woman who was shot by a suicidal killer & now is in debt for all the care she received, or the baby who was too "obese" to receive health insurance, or my friend's roommate who was struck by a car while [also] riding his bicycle & spent weeks in intensive care, or the riverboat gamblers' guitarist who was also in a bicycle vs. auto wreck & is still in intensive care along w/a quickly growing pile of bills next to him [help here]. these stories are just a handful of the millions out there.

olbermann special comment on health care reform
keith olbermann devotes an entire show to a special comment on the health care/insurance reform issue.
at the end he makes the case for donating to the national association of free clinics so they can hold free clinics at the state capitals of the5 6 senators holding out on the public option.
i'm donating as much as i can. if you can't donate, at least spread the word.

chief complaint: AUTO VS BIKE
just wanted to let everyone know, with a little more detail, how my accident went down last week.
my best friend aisha & i left my condo around 10:45pm. our first stop of the night was shangri-la, where we had a couple of drinks thanks to our buddy kenji. we hung out & shot the shit for about an hour.
a few minutes before midnight we got on our way to malverde. we started out riding west on 6th st., had a green light as we approached the north-bound access road of i35. i crossed the 1st light w/aisha trailing me by about 2 bike's lengths. the 2 outer lanes [of 3] on the south-bound access road had cars waiting for their light to turn green. about 5-10 feet from the intersection, from my peripherals, i saw a car coming on the middle lane. it seemed like it was going 40-50 miles an hour, never even slowing down for the red light or after it hit me. it was so fast, i barely had time to think "OH SHIT!!!". my inability to stop had NOTHING to do with the type of bike i ride, a fixed gear. there was just no way anyone could've stopped that fast, w/that short a distance.
i hit the side, towards the rear end of the car. from what aisha tells me, i went airborne & may have even done a flip! i landed on my back, got a big scratch directly above my tail-bone, my right hip is swollen, my left hand has some nice scratches, broke the 5th metacarpal on my left hand, and some bumps/scratches on my face/head.
i was taken to brackenridge hospital, where they performed a ct scan of my head & neck & x-ray of my hand. unfortunately i don't currently have health insurance, so i took a trip to mcallen, texas [where my parents currently live] so i can see a hand surgeon that my dad knows & is willing to give me a discount on his services. my 3 hour stay @ seton industries has cost me $3,000+.
i wanna thank everyone at the scene who was kind enough to help & provide information to the authorities. i'm hoping that the austin police department is able to find the driver so i can sick reposa on him/her!
UPDATE! received the bill from brackenridge hospital = $15,553.25
dept. of labor's 2009 poverty guideline for a 1 person household = $10,830.00
minimum wage $7.25 x 40 hrs. x 52 wks. = $15,080.00 [before taxes]
