this is my dislocated shoulder: a two year glimpse into the austin music scene
hello my lovelies!
during the month of march i will have 30+ fotos hanging on the walls of thunderbird coffe on east manor road.
below you will find the amazing flyer designed by my great friend jorge @ frebruary forth design:

#freeweek: the means @red_7 + bonus foto shoot + "stand up" single, january 4th 2011
this was pretty much it for me during free week oh.eleven.
i was totally drained from my 2 week xxxmas/nye staycation in austin.
started gettin' sick 'round this specific night.
a bummer, but did manage to get some much needed rest for these 30+ y/o bones.
my homeboy dialek fronts this 4-5 piece unit called the means.
they have been playing around austin for the better part of oh.ten & it feels like oh.eleven is gonna bring some well deserved attention their way.
the fellas opened up this hip hop showcase to a good crowd of headz. i was stoked to hear quite a number of new tracks they've been working on since i last saw 'em.

also got to shoot some band fotos for the boys in the red 7 green room before their set:
in the spirit for free week, dialek sent me a track for all your hungry ears:

night fever vol. vi: chico mann + peligrosa @ the scoot inn, october 30th 2010
dang!
a great night to kick it w/tons of great people in awesome costumes & amazing musicians/dj's.
not a good night for me & my camera though. had some issues w/the flash, so lots of shots are outta focus [surprisingly annoying to manual focus while drinkin' & partyin' heavily].
i will make it up to all my holmes @ peligrosa's friday night fun fun fun fest after party @ the nd & soul of the boot/strangetribe's next night fever @ republic live w/king britt.
chico mann was nothin' short of awesome!
dj orión + pagame + manolo black + hobo d + sonora + vj silencio brought only the good shit as they always do!
thanks to everyone for makin' this a super fun night.

learning secrets presents: sleigh bells @ beauty bar, october 9th 2010
tried to avoid the austin city limits festival as much as possible this year. got to leave town for work on thursday & even had a chance to stop in houston to hang w/one of my besties in her new/old digs.
couldn't stay away for the epicness @ @booty bar saturday night though. noise pop duo, @sleigh bells, were brought to town by the @learning secrets crew. i made it back to town just in time to wait during the longest soundcheck ever! i think there were some issues w/a sound board or something like it, whatever it was, it took a long time to get derek & alexis on stage. during the 2nd song, alexis' vocals were barely audible, but after that speed bump everything went smoothly. short. but smooth.
this was the 2nd time to see slay bells, & they have lived up to the slay part both times.

revenants @ red 7 & peligrosa all stars w/jubilee @ club de ville, august 20th 2010
fuckin' punk showcase send off for the krum bums' tour @red 7.
was aksed to take fotos of revenants with my buddies allen idle on vocals and the most prolific drummer this side of the mason dixon, eric idle.
headed over to club de ville for a lil' sweaty dancin' w/the @peligrosa all stars and special guest @jess jubilee from the big apple.
errrbody was out in full effect, dancin', sweatin', drinkin', smokin' & most importantly lookin' all kinds o' HAWWWT!!!
as always, thanks to the crew: @manolo black + @pagame + @dj orión + @hobo d + all of the friendly bodies that make this night so much fun. xo

mark "showdown" medley's going away festival: unwed fathers + watching the moon + moltyverse + bob showdown + like dogs @ mohawk, july 5th 2010
good friend of the fam & all around renaissance man, mark "showdown" medley, headed out to the warm sunny beaches of hawaii w/his lovely wife.
the least he could do is throw down one last time w/the incredible bob showdown & that raw good shit from the moltyverse @ the mohawk.
good friends were there to wish our friends good travels: unwed fathers + watching the moon + like dogs + jesse moore/hobomouth + bridge farmers [sorry for leaving early & not shootin' all the bands, it was a loooooong weekend of debauchary & had to work the next day. bwaaaaah bwaaaaaah bwaaaaaah!!!]

the triumphant return of like dogs! w/parking + hobomouth + the bread + east cameron folkcore @ hole in the wall, june 4th 2010
i ain't never seen so many stage divin', crowd surfin' hooligans @ hole in the wall.
it was the most appropriate scene for the return of randy-jean baker, deep truckin' hank mccoy & smiznO. this was a family event with the bread, parking, east cameron folkcore & hobomouth [so bummed to have missed: the best love in town, bridge farmers & revenants]. like dogs released a cd that i'm proud to have helped with. this certainly was one of the funnest shows i've been to all year.
thanks to all the friends who were there.

@l.a.x. is doin' it & doin' it & doin' it well!
these boys & girls are certainly on an upward trajectory. they always put on a great show & for their "a ep" release party, they certainly did not disappoint.
@knuckle rumbler put on a great party along w/alison narro on photobooth duty, @dj orión makin' sure everyone kept 'em booties shakin' between sets & @frank hot dogs & cold beer providin' $10 gift certificates for all attendees!
had a great time w/loads of good peeps.

the madness @ booty bar + rebirth of brass band @ ace's lounge, january 2010
the adverb cantankerous just popped into my head.
[looked it up & found out its meaning & etymology]
the way this word sounds, more so than its actual definition, describes my current state of mind.
maybe it's a 1/3 life crisis.
almost 31 is old enough to be jaded, but not completely.
during the week i want to stay home all the time, but the weekend calls me out like some sort of siren in greek mythology. i wanna be a boring old dude, but won't let go of my partying ways.
maybe the fact that i'm questioning my lifestyle is a sign that my times they are a-changin'.

free week 2010
this year i did not get a chance to revel in the amazingness that is free week.
it was free week on steroids. there were waaaaay more venues. waaaaay more bands. waaaay more fun. it seemed like a smaller/cooler version of sxsw.
it all started waaaaay back in the evening january 8th, 2010.
@ the mohawk i got to check out cartright.
@ the parish the house was packed for auto body & l.a.x.
@ booty bar betaplayer & prince klassen held it down.
it all ended the next evening @ red 7 & a little jaunt to the music gym.
on 1st was watching the moon then the boys from eagle claw, & finally shitty carwash.

i miss'd the boys from este vato, but caught el tule, maneja beto & owner of the tastiest pseudonym: eddie "dj chorizo funk" campos.
even got a chance to sneak away & take a few fotos of my homies dj pagame, orión, manolo black & hobo d of peligrosa all stars fame doin' their monthly thang.
